Fellowship in Basic Bioengineering of the skin for principle investigator

  1.          As the pioneer working on Bioengineering field of the skin since 2005, our Bioengineering labs has built up the knowledge of skin function and its relevant aspects in Asian people.  This course provides essential knowledge in dermatology, research methodology and skill in using basic non-invasive instruments for academic research and marketing. The participants will get familiar with basic non-invasive instruments for transepidermal water loss, skin hydration/ pH/ color/ elasticity/ wrinkling/ vasculature, skin imaging and so on, in which practical points in this academic field will be focused. This course will be divided into 3 levels for which the course schedules are set to fit individual level, namely; for principle investigator (P.I.), researcher assistant (R.S.) and marketing representative (M.R.).
  2. Objective
  3.         1. To provide essential knowledge in operating non-invasive instruments and processing the raw data in skin research (in case of P.I., R.S) or marketing skin product (in case of M.R.).
  4.         2. To encourage a participant to gain the ability of data interpretation according to his/her level requirement.
  5. Duration of Training    2 weeks all year round, except Febuary, March, April and July, providing

    3. Applicant’s Qualification
    4.         1) General practitioner (MD), pharmacist.
              2) Graduate of Diploma Course in Dermatology, Institute of Dermatology, Bangkok, Thailand.
              3) Graduate of training in general dermatology from recognized training center in Thailand or aboard.
              4) Good command of spoken and written English.
    5. Course Curriculum
    6. Lectures (50%) includes:
    7.          Basic structure of the skin                  Scalp and hairs
               Environmental factors and the skin      Skin color, vascular lesion
               Overview of non-invasive instrument    Research methodology
               Basic dermatopharmacology                Future non-invasive instruments
               TEWL, skin hydration/pH                     Data analysis
               Skin elasticity                                   Application in drug and cosmetic industry,
               Skin imaging/reflection, D-squame, sebumeter  Application in in skin diseases, etc.
    8. 2. Clinical practice (50%)
    9.         Practice operating the instruments
              Assign pilot study for practice I
              Assign pilot study for practice II
    10. Measurement and evaluation  By attending and practice under supervision of teaching staff 
    11. Criterion of measurement       To complete the course, participants must have Attending time ≥  80 %
    12. Degree  Obtained                      Certificate of Achievement (in case, a participant pass the test) or Certificate of attending (in case, a participant fails the test).
